Crying Baby… Resason?
Image from WikipediaIntroduction:
Crying is a normal event in the lives of all babies. When a baby comes out of the womb the first thing to do is crying.By the first cry he will take some air in to the lungs for the first time in their life. After delivery if the baby doesn’t cry then it should be initiated by slightly pinching or gently stroking the feet. From this it is clear that the healthy baby should cry and it is a normal physiological event ,still some times it can upset the mother or family members.
We all know that a baby can’t tell his needs or troubles in words. The only way for him to communicate with others is by crying.Babies show some other signs like feet kicking, hand waving and head turning etc. But the best way to take the attention of others is by crying.
Excessive crying may not have a firm definition because the crying habit changes from baby to baby and some babies can be calmed easily but some are difficult to sooth. If crying is distressing for the mother and home nurse it can be called excessive. Many a times baby become quiet by giving breast milk or by carrying with a gentle rocking.Sudden onset of excessive crying means baby is distressed and needs attention. The causes of crying extends from simple reasons to life threatening conditions.Hence crying of a baby should not be ignored.
Most of the time it is difficult to find the cause of the cry .Common causes are discussed here for awareness.
Common reasons for crying:
1,Hunger:–
A hungry baby will cry till he gets the milk. Here the old saying comes true’crying baby gets the milk’.
2,Wetting:–
Urination and defecation causes some discomfort and results in crying till his parts are cleaned and made dry .
3,Company:–
Majority of the kids need somebody near. If they feel lonely they cry. When their favorite doll slips away from the grip they cry for help.
4,Tired:–
When the baby is tired after a journey and unable to sleep just cry simply. They feel tired in uncomfortable surroundings and due to unhealthy climate.
5,Heat & cold:–
If they feel too hot or too cold they become restless and cry. Child is comfortable in a room with good ventilation.
6,Tight clothing:–
Tight cloths especially during warm climate is intolerable for kids.Tight elastic of the the dress can also produce soreness in the hip region.
7,Dark room:–
When the baby wakes up from sleep he needs some dim light. If there is darkness he will disturb the sleep of parents by crying.Of course he will be irritated by strong light resulting in cry.
8,Mosquito:–
Yes,these creatures disturb the sleep by their blood sucking and make the baby to cry.
9,Nasal blocking:–
Child may not be able to sleep when there is a cold and go on crying till the passage is open.
10, Phlegm in throat:–
This also causes difficult breathing resulting in cry.Often a typical sound can be heard with each breath.
11,General aching:–
Generalized body ache with restlessness is seen in flu and prodromal stages of some infectious diseases can result in continuous cry.
12,Habitual cry:—
Some babies cry without any real cause ending the parents in agony. Many a times doctor is called for help.
13,Nappy rash:--
If a tight and wet nappy is kept for a long time results in this condition.
Rash can also be due to some allergic reaction to the elastic material of the nappy. When the rash appears it causes soreness and baby become sleepless and cry. All other skin lesions like eczema, ecthyma ,candidacies ect also causes same problems.
14,Earache:–
Ear infection is common in wet climate. The infection may spread from the throat.Ear infection can result in rupture of ear drum causing discharge of pus.Earache usually becomes worse at night when lying down.Child will become restless with cry and may not allow you to touch the ear. Some children with earache rub the affected ear frequently.
15,Colic:–
When the baby cry continuously most of us diagnose it as colic. This problem is still a topic for debate because exact cause for colic is not known and diagnosis is also difficult to confirm.Colic may be associated with rumbling and distention of abdomen.Child often feels better when lying on abdomen. Some children may not allow you to touch the abdomen. If the child cries continuously doctors help is needed.
16,Infections:–
All infections causes some kind of pain or irritation resulting in cry.Infection may be anywhere in the body.Usually it is associated with fever, redness and swelling.
17,Reactions to certain food:–
It is said that one man’s food is another man’s poison. Some food articles can produce some allergic reactions.Allergy is manifested in the form of redness, breathlessness, gastric symptoms and continuous cry.
18,Hard stools:–
Constipated babies with hard stools may cry when they get the urge for stool. Some children hesitate to pass stool because of pain .
19,Gastro esophageal reflex:–
Here baby cries with spilling of food after feeding. If this continues it may be due to gastroesophageal reflex. This is due to failure of the lower part of esophagus to close after food causing regurgitation from the stomach. It is difficult to diagnose this condition and can be confirmed by giving anti reflex medicines.
20, Dentition:–
During dentition child becomes restless with crying.Often associated with gastric troubles and diarrhoea.
Some rare reasons
—————–
1,Bowel obstruction:–
Bowel obstruction is associated with severe pain and vomiting.Abdomen is distended with rumbling sound.Baby is constipated with absence of flatus.
2,Septicemia:–
Invasion of pathogenic micro organisms in to the blood is called septicemia.Fever is associated with this condition.
3,Torsion of testes in male kids:–
When a male baby cries continuously his scrotum should be examined.Torsion of the testes produce severe pain which will be worse by touching the affected testes. When the testes is pressed upwards pain is releived. If this is not treated properly it can damage the affected testes due to lack of blood supply.
4,Meningitis:–
Initially there may not be fever, hence crying baby with alternate vacant stare and irritability should not be ignored.Fontanel is bulging. Neck rigidity and seizures may appear later.
5,Retention of urine:–
Children with retention of urine will have agonizing pain making them restless.
7,Major injuries:–
Major injury to any parts of the body causes pain. Occasionally children will fall while carrying and results in head injury.Head injury is associated with reflex vomiting and convulsions.

How to Build a Simple Treasure Chest
How to Build a Simple Treasure Chest
from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Whether for the little pirate, or for your own safe storage, a simple wooden treasure chest can be built in an afternoon with some common tools and inexpensive lumber. Here are some steps to show you how it’s done.
Steps
- Plan the size of your chest. The one built in this project is 11 inches wide, 9 inches tall (excluding the top) and 16 inches long (28 x 23 x 41 cm).
- Gather the lumber you will use. Here, we used 1 X 10 (19 mm × 235 mm) scrap maple lumber which had been stained and lacquered, then thrown in a construction site dumpster. For the size in the illustrations, an eight foot (2.4 m) long board and some odd scraps were used.
- Set up a table to do the assembly on. Two saw horses and a sheet of plywood works fine, but a heavy workbench would be better.
- Get the tools out, making sure the circular saw has a sharp blade. There are some rabbets[1] to cut for joining the corners, and a sharp blade will make this process much easier.
- Mark your lumber for the cuts. Here, the end pieces are cut 8 3/8 inches (21.3 cm), to the short point, with each end cut on a 7 degree angle so the sides of the chest will be slanted. Mark each cut on one piece of lumber, then cut them carefully. Use the first piece as a pattern to cut the second, or measure and mark it exactly, if you prefer.
- Cut your side boards, making each cut square (a 90 degree angle). Make sure one end of the board is square, then measure 16 inches (40.6 cm). Make your mark, then scribe a straight line across the board using a framing square. Cut these carefully, as well.
- Mark the rabbet cuts for the side boards to join the ends. You can use the end boards to scribe the cuts as shown in the photo, or measure 3/4 of an inch (1.9 cm) and square this line. Cut 2/3 of the thickness of the lumber deep. Here, we are using a nominal one by board, 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) thick, so we set the saw to cut 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) deep.
- Set the board on end , holding it in a vise or clamped to the work table, and cut 3/4 of an inch (1.9 cm) deep across the end, 1/2 of an inch (1.25 cm) back from the finished side.
- Join the end boards to the side boards. We used a carpenter’s grade hot melt wood glue, but these joints may be nailed or screwed, or fastened with conventional wood glue. Make sure all edges are flush and true, and try to keep the corners as square as possible. A jig will help if you are having difficulty aligning and squaring the pieces.
- Measure the opening at the bottom of your box. Using the dimensions of the chest shown, the bottom will be 14 1/2 inches (36.8 cm) by 7 inches (17.8 cm), but checking the actual assembled size will provide a better fit. Cut the bottom out of a piece of your lumber, the size you have measured, with the saw blade set on a 7 degree bevel on the long sides so it fits the tapered sides of your chest.
- Install the bottom into your box. If it is cut correctly, you may need to tap it into place, since the tapered edges will seat firmly into the bottom.
- Lay the box on its edge, and mark a line 3/8 of an inch (.95 cm) below the top, and cut around the box, 3/8 inch deep. Cut 3/8 inch deep around the top of the box, 3/8 inch from the outside edge. This will form a recess for the lid to set down on, creating a somewhat better seat for the lid to set in
- Mark two pieces of lumber the width of the chest long, here, 10 1/4 inches (26 cm). If you are using wide lumber, as in the photos, you can rip it in half to reduce waste. Mark a radius from the edge to form the curved shape of the top of the chest. Here, we used the lid from a five gallon bucket, which provided an ideal curve with little effort.
- Cut the radius on the first piece, using a jigsaw or coping saw, then mark the second, using the first as a pattern. These two pieces should be as closely matched as possible to make fitting the finished lid easier.
- Cut a rabbet, 3/8 inch (.95 cm) wide and deep in the bottom of the lid ends. Here, a vise or clamp is very helpful, since the stock you are cutting is almost impossible to hold safely while you cut. When the two ends are cut and rabbeted, you can temporarily attach them to the chest to make fitting the lid slats more simple. Here, again, hot melt glue makes this quick and simple.
- Rip strips of lumber 1/4 inch (.6 cm) thick. Make sure they are at least as long as the length of the chest, but ripping longer boards and then cutting several to length from each rip will save time.
- Cut the strips the same length as the sides of your chest. If you have attached the lid ends to the top of the chest box, you can simply scribe them in place. Glue these, starting on each side and the center of the top, to keep the assembly square and true. Fit the edges as tightly as possible, but because of the radius of the lid, you can expect a noticeable gap unless you choose to bevel each piece individually. You can leave these strips overhanging each end slightly by cutting them 1/4 inch (.6 cm) long, then after attaching them, the ends can be sanded flush.
- Attach enough strips to wrap the lid, forming a complete cover, then add an additional strip on the front and rear edges to attach hardware to. Clean up the edges, light sand the surfaces, and bevel corners and other features that may produce splinters or leave a sharp edge.
- Rip two very thin strips to overlay on the lid ends. These will act as bands, and help secure the lid slats to the box, but for all practical purposes, they are ornamental. Test fit these strips and scribe the ends, then cut them to length. Make sure they are sufficiently thin and limber to bend the radius of your lid without splitting or cracking. Attach them with glue or tacks.
- Sand all the corners and edges of your chest and lid. If you want to stain or paint the chest, now is the time to do it, before the hardware (hinges, handles, and the hasp) is installed.
- Finish the wood, depending on your preference. Since this project was started with stained hardwood, and no matching stain was available, brown spray paint was used to blend the colors of the original stain, giving a pretty good finish.
- Attach the hardware. Here, antiqued cabinet hinges and pull handles were used to add to the rustic effect. The hardware can be attached with the hotmelt glue so it can be test fitted, or you can simply attach it with the screws provided in the set you buy. Be sure to check the operation of hinges before completing installation, since if they are not correctly aligned, they will likely bind or cause the lid to fit crookedly.
Tips
- Using antiqued hardware and fasteners will give the treasure chest a more authentic appearance. Brass furniture upholstery tacks can be used for embellishment if you like.
- For a more elegant chest, the inside can be wrapped with faux leather or soft fabric.
- A table saw and band saw, as well as a router and edger would make this project easier and more exact, but we are using the tools available, and do not expect the finished project to be furniture quality construction.
- Using a wood type hot melt glue makes assembly much easier than conventional fasteners. After all parts are assembled, small finish nails or wood screws can be added.
Warnings
- When making difficult cuts, such as rabbets, the board should be securely held in place, and hands must be kept clear of the saw blade.
- Always follow safe practices when using power tools, including eye protection, and use a respirator when cutting or sanding wood or spray painting if you are sensitive to these airborn particles.
- If making this for a child, add a hinge that doesn’t allow it to slam shut on little fingers.
Things You’ll Need
- Power tools.
- Work table.
- Lumber, as described in steps.
- Fasteners or glue.
- Measuring and squaring tools.
- Sander (optional).

Common Cruise Ship Amenities
Are you interested in taking a cruise? If so, you are not alone. Each year a large number of individuals consider vacationing aboard a cruise ship. If you have never been on a cruise ship before, you may be wondering what activities, facilities, and services can be found on board. The activities found on board a cruise ship will vary from ship to ship, but many cruise ships have a number of activities and services in common.
Some of the most well-known facilities found on cruise ships are dining halls, restaurants, and cafeterias. Large cruise ships may offer a number of on board dining facilities. It is important to note that many of these dining facilities are considered upscale restaurants. In addition to a sit-down restaurant, there area usually a number of small eateries located onboard. Elegant dining restaurants are popular among cruisers. To ensure that you are able to enjoy an elegant meal, you are encouraged to schedule a reservation as soon as you board the ship.
Aside from dining facilities, bars and dancehalls are also found on most cruise ships. As with most of the bars and dancehalls found on land, there may be age restrictions in place. If you are traveling with your family, they may have to complete other activities while you enjoy the nightlight over the seas. If this should occur, you are in luck because most cruise ships have daycare centers and other activities geared towards children of all ages.
When it comes to placing your child in the care of a ship’s daycare center, you are urged to quickly familiarize yourself with the staff. This familiarization may help to calm your nerves. It is also important to note that cruise ship employees are often closely monitored, highly educated, and properly trained. While it may be difficult at first, you should feel comfortable leaving your child in the care of a cruise ship childcare worker.
Childcare is ideal for smaller children; however, if you are traveling with a teenager, daycare may not be an option. Swimming pools, libraries, video arcades, and movie theaters can often be found on cruise ships. Adult supervision is a policy that prevents children under a certain age from roaming freely around the ship.
Teenagers may be able to visit these facilities without adult supervision. Each cruise ship is likely to have different adult supervision policies. You are encouraged to review these policies before purchasing your tickets.
In addition to the above mentioned bars and dancehalls, gaming halls or casinos can be found on most cruise ships. As with gambling on land, there are age limits on those that can gamble aboard a cruise ship. Popular gambling activities include slots, blackjack, poker, and much more. Many onboard casinos are open for business twenty-four hours a day. Gambling is a popular cruise ship pastime. If you are booking a cruise just to gamble, you may want to further explore the gambling options aboard each ship.
Cruise ship operators know that many travelers take a cruise to escape their daily routines. Unfortunately for some, one routine that cannot be left behind is exercise. That is why almost all cruise ships have on site fitness centers and fully equipped gyms. These gyms are often similar, and sometimes even better, than the gyms found in your hometown. In addition to a fitness center, a large number of cruise ships have jogging tracks.
If a particular activity or event is the only reason why you are interested in booking a cruise, you are urged to physically check for that event or activity before making your reservation. The above mentioned services, facilities, and activities are found on a number of popular cruise lines. These cruise lines are likely to include, but are not limited to, Carnival Cruise Lines, Paradise Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises. With the click of a mouse or a toll free phone call, you can easily determine if your favorite activities can be found aboard the cruise ship of your choice.

Satyam Share Price
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has cleared the open offer for Satyam Computer Services by Tech Mahindra.
However, the regulatory body has asked Tech Mahindra to share with the company’s stakeholders the information Satyam had provided to the bidders. Sebi had issued its observations on the open offer on May 27, according to the regulatory body’s site.
“Satyam had given vital information about the company to the bidders, which Tech Mahindra may have to provide to shareholders along with the final offer documents (which would be filed in 2-3 days),” said sources close to the development. They added that Tech Mahindra has sent a clarification to Sebi following the observation notice issued by the regulator on May 27.
This comes as a precursor to Tech Mahindra’s open offer for acquiring 20 per cent of Satyam at a price of Rs 58 per share. The total cost will be Rs 1,154.66 crore. The open offer commences on June 12 and closes on July 1, 2009.
Meanwhile, Satyam’s stock price surged 11 per cent to Rs 63 today on rumours that Tech Mahindra will be revising the open offer for the company. The company’s stock price touched an intra-day high of Rs 64.60 — an increase of 14 per cent.
